Tukino Snow Run

This year we are doing the trip a month earlier as the admin team are heading South at the end of August and need August free to prepare for the trip.

We’re also running this over Matariki weekend to give everyone a better timeframe and make the most of the long weekend.

Friday 10th July (Matariki - Public Holiday)
Head down to Motutere Bay Top 10 Holiday Park. Powered sites are $71 per site, but you can pair up to save costs. Cabins are also available if camping isn’t your thing.

Saturday 11th July
Meet at Tukino at 11am.

We’ll do a safety briefing before heading up the mountain. The lead vehicle will head up first to check if there’s space in the top car park before bringing the group up. If there’s no room, we’ll park lower down and stop for lunch.

After heading back down we’ll make our way over to Waipakihi. There will be an optional river crossing to camp, or we can find a campsite that doesn’t require river crossings.

Because it’s a long weekend, campsites will likely be busy. The plan is for myself and another person to head in before the group to secure a larger site so everyone can arrive without needing to search around for camping spots.

Sunday 12th July
Pack up and head home.

The exit track can be a little tricky, so we’ll have vehicles leaving in pairs with admins positioned along the track to help if needed. Vehicles will be sent off every 10–15 minutes to avoid delays on the one-lane sections.
